In an era where data is the new oil, we are constantly seeking ways to extract more meaningful information from our surroundings. One such frontier is the realm of light beyond human perception. I would like to invite you to a captivating session where we delve into the world of Real-Time Hyper-Spectral Sensing for Situational Awareness.

Our focus will be on the groundbreaking technology from Living Optics, a pioneer in developing hyperspectral cameras for the mass market. These devices access information invisible to human eyes and conventional cameras, enabling discoveries ranging from plastics sorting to greenhouse gas detection and even tumour detection. We will explore how Living Optics’ cameras capture both spatial and spectral information in real-time at video frame rates. This VIS-NIR video-rate spectral imaging camera allows developers to see the whole image, transforming how we perceive the world. Real-time hyper-spectral sensing can significantly enhance situational awareness in defence applications. Here are some potential uses: Battlefield Information Gathering: Hyperspectral imaging can provide detailed information about the battlefield. It can help in understanding the terrain and the position of enemy troops. This can greatly enhance strategic planning and decision-making. Target Discrimination: Hyperspectral technologies can help in discriminating between real targets and decoys. This can prevent wastage of resources on false targets and improve the efficiency of operations. Camouflage Defeat: Hyperspectral imaging can detect objects or individuals that are camouflaged. This can help in identifying hidden threats and ensuring the safety of troops. Remote Surveillance: Hyperspectral imaging can be used for remote surveillance of areas of interest. This can provide real-time situational awareness without putting personnel at risk. These are just a few examples. The potential applications of real-time hyper-spectral sensing in defense are vast and continue to grow as the technology evolves. We will delve into the science behind hyperspectral imaging, discussing how it leverages the imaging instrument’s aperture’s diffractive properties and the dispersive properties of the atmosphere. This novel snapshot hyperspectral imaging technique has the potential to revolutionize space situational awareness (SSA) and other fields. Join us as we explore this fascinating technology that is set to change the way we see the world. Discover how Astute Systems and Living Optics is making hyperspectral imaging widely accessible, and learn about the endless possibilities this technology holds for the future.
