The SABRE Alliance is a Defence initiative which aims to create a sustainable and dynamic alliance between academia, industry, and Defence and National Security sectors that leverages biotechnology advancements, fosters talent, and accelerates the translation of breakthroughs into real-world applications for a safer and more prosperous Australia.

The session focuses on CBRN challenges, and the power of cross-sector collaborations to develop dual use technologies that can address agriculture, medical and defence challenges and needs. The session will explore the way effective alliances like SABRE can contribute to the newly-announced National Science and Research Priorities, particularly around building a secure and resilient nation. SABRE’s scenario planning exercises have shown that emerging biotechnologies have immense potential to enhance our preparedness and response capabilities for a range of threats, but they also present new risks. A whole of Government approach, leveraging existing programs and advocating for new initiatives, will position Australia to respond to the threats and opportunities presented by CBRN and specifically biotechnology (and synthetic biology).
