US Army in December 2022 selected the Bell V-280 tiltrotor as their Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA), with the first units to be operational from 2031.
US Army Assistant Secretary for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology, Douglas R. Bush, has called the program Army's "highest aviation modernization priority. FLRAA will provide effective assault and MEDEVAC capabilities, with significantly increased speed, range, and endurance."
This presentation by Bell VP Military Sales and Strategy Carl Coffman will provide an update on this 'game-changing' technology - first directed by Congress in 2008.
FLRAA is a key part of US Army aviation modernization, as a replacement for the 1970s-era Blackhawk, and to ensure US ‘overmatch' in regions such as the IndoPacific.
Not only does the aircraft signal a transformative leap in rotorcraft performance - perhaps not seen since the Vietnam War - but FLRAA will potentially change the way the US Army moves and fights, with implications for Allies and partners.
The program brings evolutionary changes in digital design, a 'soldier-centric' approach to development, MOSA architecture, new weapons and sensors, advanced manufacturing and training technologies.
