Land Forces Innovation Award finalist BlueRoom Simulations deployed its mixed-reality training system aboard HMAS Adelaide during the opening night of Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025.
The deployment demonstrated the system’s portability and ability to be set up in a range of locations. Using high-end mixed-reality headsets with real medical equipment, the system can replicate environments such as combat zones, aircraft cabins, helicopters and land vehicles. Trainees experience realistic audio and vibration while practising procedures including airway management and IV cannulation.
During the exercise, the vehicle deck of Adelaide was configured as a simulated training environment, allowing medical personnel to switch between scenarios from different operational contexts.
The technology is not limited to maritime use and can be applied in land, sea, air and space training environments. It supports both medical and non-medical skills development, reducing the need for training on operational platforms and lowering resource demands.
According to BlueRoom Simulations, being able to deploy the system to varied locations, including ships, base facilities or forward operating environments, offers opportunities for personnel to train in settings closely matched to those in which they will operate.
